Opengazer, dasher and ticker: hands-free error tolerant communication
hands-free error tolerant communication
Opengazer's non-invasive web-cam based head tracker and gesture switch are presented. The head tracker is used as continuous gesture input to dasher, allowing information efficient text entry just by moving one's head.
Opengazer's non-invasive web-cam based head tracker and gesture switch are presented. The head tracker is used as continuous gesture input to dasher, allowing information efficient text entry just by moving one's head.
The gesture switch learns a gesture such as "eyes up", or "smile" during a very simple training phase, and emits a "click", so acts as a single button switch. (A multibutton version already exists.) Good vision is necessary to use dasher. An alternative audio interface text entry system dubbed "ticker" will be demonstrated using the gesture switch as input.
Development of these systems is funded by the European Commission in the context of the AEGIS project, and by the Gatsby Foundation.
Emli-Mari Nel and Patrick Welche are researchers in David Mackay's Inference Group, University of Cambridge.
