KDE, the leading desktop environment for Linux/Unix, is also
a very powerful development platform. This session will present the architecture
and the facilities provided by KDE and Qt for application developers.
During this talk, you will be briefly presented KDE's main features, as a
desktop environment and in terms of the applications it provides to the
user. You will then learn about KDE's architecture, and especially the
development framework offered by the KDE libraries. With the 2.x series,
KDE has indeed become a powerful development environment, adding many
classes and features to those already provided by Qt.
Specifically, we will talk about user interfaces described in actions and XML,
about the DCOP communication protocol, about the trading capabilities
for querying for installed applications and components, about network
transparency, about system configuration cache and finally the component
model called KParts.
