Abstract: KDE - past, present, and future
Linux on the desktop is a reality for millions of users, an achievement that can be directly attributed to the success of KDE and its conceptual fork Gnome.
But if we take into account our original vision in the early days of the Linux desktop from 1996 to 1998, how successful have we really been ?
The answer is simple: like with any other visionary project, we went way beyond the original vision in many areas, and fell horribly short in others, some of these areas we still see as crucial today.
In my talk, I will outline where we are and where we wanted to be. I will also talk about our biggest challenges today, and what is we are doing to address them. Finally, I will conclude with what we might see in the future. |
