Jabber Developer Room

Room: AW1.105

Jabber
1. Rapid and indistinct speech
2. To talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner
3. A streaming XML technology mainly used for instant messaging

Jabber is best known as "the Linux of instant messaging" -- an open, secure, ad-free alternative to consumer IM services like AIM, ICQ, MSN,and Yahoo. Under the hood, Jabber is a set of streaming XML protocols and technologies that enable any two entities on the Internet to exchange messages, presence, and other structured information in close to real time.

The core protocols are formalized with the IETF under the name XMPP by the XMPP Standards Foundation, a non-profit organization that defines open XMPP extension protocols and provides information and infrastructure to the worldwide community of Jabber/XMPP developers, service providers, and end users.

Presentations on various different use cases of Jabber technologies, IM and non-IM, will be hosted in this room.
Also, on Sunday morning, there's a small sprint for getting acquainted with developing Jabber applications. There is a gap in the schedule on Sunday 15:00-16:00 because of Peter Saint-Andre's talk in the Internet Services track in Janson.

We also have a Jabber booth in the hallway of the H building.

Finally, in the CrossDesktop room, there is a talk about Telepathy, a unified framework for all forms of real time conversations, including instant messaging, IRC, voice calls and video calls. This project has significant Jabber support.
