Beyond JSON: Interoperable RIAs over XMPP (ROX)
The hacker-friendly documentation generated by the Jabber standards community solves most of the issues faced by distributed application developers.
Rich Internet Application (RIA) hackers (who may have been using JSON, Comet or AJAX for browser-server communications) can use XMPP to build on top of the wealth of existing Jabber applications and to interoperate with RIAs produced by other developers. RIAs can connect to Jabber servers via a choice of two browser-friendly HTTP streaming standards.
BOAH extends the Comet technique, while BOSH is a novel mature protocol that passes through more proxies and enables efficient cross-domain streaming.
