Governing Debian: From Scud launch to impact
Jeroen van Wolffelaar |
15:00-16:30 |
Key signing party At this time, the official key signing party takes place in Ferrer. Because of the amount of Debian people with a GPG key, we thought it would be prudent to not hold talks during this time. However, the emdebian folks will hold a workshop during this time, and the devroom will remain open for other interested parties as well.

Improving workflow in Debian through process integration Martin is pursuing a Ph.D. with Brian Fitzgerald about workflow in Debian, with the intent to eventually provide suggestions for improvements. This talk will introduce some of the core ideas of this research.
Martin F. Krafft |

Nobody expects the Finnish Inquisition: Confession of a package torturer Piuparts tests that .deb packages can be installed, upgraded, and removed without problems. Lars uses it to torture all the packages he can get his hands on. This talk explains how to use it on one's own packages before uploading them, thus improving their quality and not having them suffer in Lars' hands.

Women in Free Software: Findings from FLOSSPOLS
Hanna M. Wallach |

The Debian GNU/kFreeBSD port An overview of GNU/kFreeBSD, and a quick comparison between the FreeBSD and the Linux kernel to give users the necessary information to let them find how the FreeBSD kernel could fill their needs, and how they could try it out. The status of the port, and some best portability practices (for both Debian packaging as well as upstream code) will be discussed as well.
Aurelien Jarno |
12:00-13:00 |
SLIND: A small Debian-based linux distro for embedded systems SLIND is a small Linux distribution targeted at embedded devices. What differentiates SLIND from other solutions is the Debian package management both on target and on host—therefore, dpkg and apt-get may be used directly on the taret device, providing impressive upgrade facilities. This talk will introduce the architecture of SLIND and provide a working demo.
Benjamin Collar |
13:30-14:15 |
Debian-Volatile—behind the scenes
An overview of how packages are handled for debian-volatile: what packages are allowed, and how is security handled.
Martin Zobel-Helas |
14:15-15:15 |
Debtags, and what you can do with it today
An introduction to the Debtags project: what has been accomplished so far and the wonderful tools that are available to make sense of the huge package archive using debtags.
Enrico Zini |
15:15-16:15 |
Debian-Installer internals
An introduction to the inner workings of Debian-installer. Starting with what happens when the installer boots, the talk will go on to discuss how the dynamic menu structure allows the installer to be adapted for different architectures and installation methods. Other subjects will include the special nature of udebs, the contents of a D-I initrd, how cdebconf knits everything together and allows the use of different frontends, preseeding and the use of hooks. If time allows, a short introduction into the build system and CD building may be provided.
Frans J. Pop |
16:15-17:00 |
Inside the Debian menu system
The debian menu system keeps the menus in sync with the list of packages, and does so transparently. So transparently, in fact, that a lot of developers do not know how the system really works. This talk will detail the various components of the system, what the technical challenges are and how they are solved.
