Alaina Edwards was born and raised in the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica (not the Dominican Republic). She moved to the United States to complete her undergraduate studies at the University of Arkansas where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics with a minor in Computer Science. During her time there she was exposed to the High-Performance Computing community through her SIAM Chapter leader who was her mentor during her first HPC-related internship with the Blue Waters Supercomputer in Illinois. With the help of her experience as a volunteer in the SC18 conference in Dallas TX, she was able to get selected as one of the first group of students in the Pathways to Computing Program held at the Oak Ridge National Lab in Oak Ridge TN. Upon graduation, she was able to return to Oak Ridge under the post-Bachelor's internship program where she worked on this project under the supervision of Dr. Reuben Budiardja and Veronica Melesse Vergara. She is now ready to attend graduate school where she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics or Physics.
