Marc Jones

Marc Jones has over 20 years of experience as technology consultant and is a licensed U.S. attorney. For the last several years his technology and legal practice has focused on open source licensing and data security.

Marc Jones is a U.S. based attorney and engineer focused on data security and open source licensing. He currently works as a Compliance Engineer and In-house Counsel at CivicActions, a U.S. based IT services company focused on transforming government through Agile development and FOSS.

Prior to his current position he worked in both technology and legal positions. He was the Associate Director for IT Operations and Risk Management at the University of Connecticut and was Counsel at the Software Freedom Law Center. At SFLC his legal practice focused on providing advice on open software licenses, nonprofit law, and U.S. export controls. Marc earned his juris doctor from Quinnipiac University School of Law where he graduated summa cum laude; was a Linda Ilkowitz Scholar; and a member of the editorial board of the Quinnipiac Law Review. Marc has also contributed to multiple open source projects over the years. Marc currently lives in rural Connecticut between New York City and Boston with his partner and several furry animals.
