Project Lighthouse

A low-cost device to help blind people live independently

Let's see how we can build small IoT devices that can help blind people in their daily life.

The Word Health Organization estimates that more than 250 million people suffer from vision impairment, 36 millions of them being entirely blind. In many cases, their impairment prevents them from living independently. To complicate things further, about 90% of them are estimated to live in low-income situations.

Project Lighthouse was started by Mozilla to try and find low-cost technological solutions that can help vision-impaired people live and function on their own. To this date, we have produced several prototypes designed to aid users in a variety of situations.

Let's look at some of them.

This will be a relatively low-tech presentation.
