The HomeSIP Project: Using open source SIP stack for Home Automation

For the next decade, we‘ll witness the convergence between 3 sciences: computer science, telecommunications and microelectronics.

Many communicating embedded systems are around us. More and more of them will be present at home for home automation.

The HomeSIP project consists to develop an open platform for Home Automation using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol. The SIP protocol is a well known protocol for VoIP (Voice Over IP). This talk will present the HomeSIP project. The SIP protocol will be described in a Home Automation point of view and compared to other protocols like SNMP, HTTP used for controlling embedded systems.

The HomeSIP infrastructure will be presented: choice of an open source SIP stack (GNU oSIP/eXoSIP), developed Linux based SIP gateways, sensors networks...

Finally, we’ll present a new DSL (Domain Specific Language) language for developing new services for Home Automation.
