Charles Eckel
Charles Eckel is a developer advocate with a passion for open source and standards.
Charles began his open source journey in 1999 as a founding member of Vovida Networks, where he developed some of the industry’s first open source Voice over IP (VoIP) protocol stacks and applications. Now at Cisco, Charles is a recognized champion of open source, standards, and interoperability. He runs DevNet’s Open Source Dev Center (https://developer.cisco.com/site/opensource/), which focuses on Cisco’s major open source contributions, use, and community engagements. He also runs Code Exchange, (https://developer.cisco.com/codeexchange/), which provides a curated set of code repositories related to Cisco technologies to jumpstart your work with Cisco platforms, products, APIs, and SDKs. In the standards world, Charles introduced open source hackathons into IETF (https://www.ietf.org/how/runningcode/hackathons/) and MEF (http://www.mef.net/community-industry/lso-hackathon), revolutionizing the way these SDOs operate and uniting open source software with standards to maximize the pace and relevance of both.
