I'm from Australia, and am a Director at FastMail. Apart from running the FastMail Ops team, I work on Open Source development of the Cyrus IMAPd server and on the JMAP mail protocol.
I've been working with email for over 15 years now, from running basic mail services for college through to working on one of the biggest open source email server projects. 6 years ago, we had to decide at FastMail whether we would write our own mail server, or improve the internals of Cyrus to give us the features we needed for performance and reliability. The work I did there became Cyrus 2.4 in 2010.
I've also been active in the standards mailing lists around email, and my current project is building a new protocol for email clients to talk to servers - called JMAP.
My goal in travelling to the other side of the world for FOSDEM is to evangalise both the Cyrus project and the JMAP protocol.
