Call for participation: lightning talks and stands
We now invite proposals for lightning talks and stands.
Lightning talks
Lighting talks are short — 15 minutes — talks on a wide variety of topics. Anyone who has something interesting to say about an open source topic can apply. We particularly encourage topics that do not fit in any of the developer rooms.
Proposals for lightning talks should be submitted using Pentabarf:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15Please be sure to select "lightning talks" in the "track" field.
Questions or remarks? Contact us at lightningtalks@fosdem.org.
Stands
FOSDEM offers open source projects the opportunity to display their work during the event. At their stand, a project can share information, demo software, sell merchandise, give away goodies, and so on, and personally interact with the visitors.
What we offer
- one 180x80cm table, positioned in one of the buildings with developer rooms, for the entire duration of the conference. In some cases, a second table may be possible, if you have a good reason to need two.
- two chairs per table
- one power socket type C/E (if you require adapters or additional sockets, please bring them yourself)
- fast uplink shared wireless Internet access
Further practical considerations
- The offer for stands is open to open source projects and communities
- There is no cost or fee for the stands
- The stand should be occupied by at least two people for the duration of the conference.
Submission details
Send your request via email to stands@fosdem.org. Please include at least the following information:
- Project name
- Stand description
- Project URLs
- Your name and relation to the project
- Why should FOSDEM accept this proposal?
- Optionally, if requesting two tables, motivation for the second table
Questions or remarks? Contact us at stands@fosdem.org.

Call for participation: main tracks and developer rooms
We now invite proposals for main track presentations and developer rooms.
FOSDEM offers open source developers a place to meet, share ideas and collaborate. Renowned for being highly developer-oriented, the event brings together some 5000+ geeks from all over the world.
The fifteenth edition will take place on Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February 2015 at the usual location: ULB Campus Solbosch in Brussels.
We now invite proposals for main track presentations and developer rooms.
Previous editions have featured tracks centered around security, operating system development, community building, and many other topics. Presentations are expected to be 50 minutes long and should cater to a varied technical audience. The conference covers travel expenses and arranges accommodation for accepted main track speakers.
Developer rooms are assigned to self-organising groups to work together on open source projects, to discuss topics relevant to a broader subset of the community, etc. Content may be scheduled in any format, subject to approval. Popular formats include presentation tracks, hacking sessions and panel discussions. Proposals involving collaboration across project or domain boundaries are strongly encouraged.
Proposals for main track presentations should be submitted using Pentabarf:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/
Developer room proposals should be emailed to devrooms@fosdem.org and be as detailed as possible. In particular, coordinators should indicate their affinity with the topic being proposed and provide a rough idea of the content they plan to schedule.
Key dates:
- 15 September
- deadline for developer room proposals

Video transcoding progressing
Transcoding of our videos is making progress. We're not finished yet, however, and your help is welcome!
There are many transcoded videos already visible on our video archive. However, some videos do have issues, and we have neither the time nor the manpower to review all videos in minute detail.
We would therefore like to ask for some help from the community: if you see some issues with one or more videos on the video archive, it would be helpful if you could inform us.
Examples of problems we've so far encountered include:
- Misassociation (a video named after one talk actually containing another)
- Missing audio (image, but no sound, or static rather than sound)
- Incorrect timings (the talk starts many minutes before or after the start of the video
It's of course also possible that there are other issues which we've not yet identified.
All reports of issues are welcome on the video mailinglist.
