He is a Free Software developer and activist. He authored several tools for Virtual Networking (VDE), Remote Lecturing (SRL), Modular Proxy (Prometeo), ..., and View-OS. He partecipated to an audition of the PES (Party of European Socialists) to illustrate the risks of software patentability for computer science research. He is promoting a petition (www.liberasw.org) against the bundling of OEM software on personal computers. He is currently associate professor of computer science (operating systems) at the university of Bologna where he leads the master in "free and open source software technology". He has been scientific chair of ConfSL (Italian Free Software Conference) since 2007.
