Tias joined the FOSDEM organisation team in 2006, after finishing university and accordingly its LUG. When he joined the team, there were no plans for lightning talks. A previous attempt a few years back had had limited succes, as the schedule had gotten messed up by laptop switching delays and too long talks. So he took up the challenge of organising the lightning talks the best way he could: with a strict schedule, yet in a relaxed atmosphere with breaks between the talks.
