Contents of the talk: «Multiplayer gaming through GGZ» While many games make use of 3D engines, sound libraries or physics simulators, programmers are often wasting time by writing all the networking aspects of games by themselves. The GGZ Gaming Zone, which was founded in the year 2000 initially to offer a few games for online play, has since turned into a provider of powerful libraries which relieve the programmers of those tasks. Integrating GGZ into games is easier than ever thanks to the new toolkit-aware integration libraries. The talk will highlight some examples and also of the challenges of expanding free gaming on the internet.
GGZ Gaming Zone unifies multiplayer capabilities of free games at the technical level, while diversifying it on the level of experience by offering many cool add-ons to the core game server infrastructure. GGZ powers the KDE and GNOME multiplayer frameworks, and is used by Freeciv and other games as well.
