The talk will explain the underlying technology of Google's OpenSocial platform, and the philosophy of DataPortability, then give an example of friending between two social network accounts via CloudBridges. The future potential of a fully open, Social Web will be explored.
A CloudBridge is a small FOSS application you can install into your profile on a social network which provides you with a microformat-based profile on the open Web, with a controllable level of privacy. It lets you specify which friends can see your profile, even if those friends are on a different social network. As such it is the first public example of a meta social network, where people from different networks can friend each other without having to create any new accounts.
