FOSDEM '08 is a free and non-commercial event organised by the community, for the community. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers a place to meet.

Speaker interviews

One month to go until the event seems like a nice time to start reading up about the topics that will be covered at FOSDEM 2008.

Enjoy the first speaker interviews, and expect some more in the coming weeks.

Profoss virtualization

Profoss is organizing an event about virtualisation on 22 and 23 January in Brussels.

Profoss is a rather complementary event to FOSDEM, as it wants to spread relevant and objective information about the use of Free and Open Source software in Professional environments. Profoss wants to help you deploy Free and Open source successfully in the enterprise. The first day is dedicated to the business impact of virtualization, the second day will take a close look at technical aspects. All speakers are specialists with a proven track record in virtualization:

  • Frank Kohler, Virtualization project manager for SuSE
  • John Abbott, chief analyst at The 451 Group
  • Mike Kreiten, Product manager workstation and server at AMD
  • Duncan Hardie, Solaris Product Manager at Sun
  • Kris Buytaert, co-author of Virtualization with Xen
  • Tarry Singh, virtualization advisor and Avastu CEO
  • Kristof De Spiegeleer, Q-Layer CEO
  • Herbert Poetzl, project leader of Linux-VServer
  • Niko Nelissen, VP Business development Q-Layer
  • Mattias Rechenburg, OpenQRM project manager
  • Werner Fischer, Developer and OpenVZ specialist

Being close to FOSDEM and the Free and Open Source communities, organizers also want to support FOSDEM:
each person registering for the Profoss event with the promo code FOSDEM will get 10% discount and Profoss will also give 20% of his/her registration cost back to FOSDEM.

Drupal devroom call for speakers

Quote from Dries Buytaert / Drupal:

Mark your agendas because the Drupal project got a 200-person developer room at FOSDEM on Sunday, February 24th. FOSDEM, which stands for Free and Open Source Developers' European Meeting, is a yearly free and non-commercial event for the open source community, held in Brussels (Belgium). With more than 3,000 attendees coming from all over the world, FOSDEM is the biggest open source event in Europe.

We will use the developer room to meet, discuss, and talk about Drupal. Right now, we're looking for speakers so let us know in the comments if you want to give a presentation. Alternatively, feel free to request presentation topics as well. Joeri Poesen from Krimson is the lead schedule wrestler.

Research Room: call for participation

The organizers of the Research Room have launched a call for participation for their developer room at FOSDEM 2008.

If you'd like to present your work our project (on that topic), contact them before January 24th.

Happy New Year

Let there be code,
Let the code be open
And let us, together, accomplish great things during 2008.

The FOSDEM Team wishes everyone all the best for 2008 and, of course, a year full of happy hacking.

Call For Lightning Talks

Lightning Talks are your 15 minutes of fame: every free or open source project can apply for a lightning talk. During exactly 15 minutes, one person gets to present the project or an aspect of it. All Lightning Talks will happen in a large room that can host up to 300 people.
