FOSDEM '08 is a free and non-commercial event organised by the community, for the community. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers a place to meet.

Live Streaming

As a reminder: for those who won't be able to attend the event, a live stream of all talks held in the conference room "Janson" (that includes the Keynotes, the Programming Languages, the Build Systems and the Packaging tracks) will be provided in partnership with Linux Magazine.

The following link will take you to the schedule and streaming interface, where you can use several technologies to watch the videos (including opensource ones, with opensource codecs):

(no registration nor fee required)

All sessions held in Janson (keynotes and main tracks), Chavanne (main tracks) and Ferrer (lightning talks) will be recorded and available as video files after the event (including for download), thanks to NamurLUG and Linux Magazine.

A printable version of the complete FOSDEM schedule is available as a PDF, compiled on 6 pages:

The information folder/booklet can also be downloaded here: http://fosdem.org/2008/folder (8.7MB PDF)

Job Corner

During last edition we noticed a demand for a regulated job corner. This year we are proud to announce companies will be able to inform you (our visitors) about job opportunities in open source or free software.

The job corner will be around the end of the main hallway (H building).

We'd like to stress on these rules:

Allowed
  • Open Source Related
  • Open Source Development
  • Open Source Products Integration
  • Flyers with info about the job
  • Passive Recruitment (paper)
Forbidden
  • NO Non-Open Source Jobs
  • NO Partially Open Source
  • NO Job adverts on other places than the job corner
  • NO Active Recruitment (inviting visitors to look at your jobs)
Please respect what we do and don't break these rules

Keysigning party: Key submission due by Tuesday Feb 19th

Key submission for the Keysigning party will be closed after Tuesday, February 19th. Make sure to submit your keys before the deadline. See Keysigning party for more details.

FOSDEM Beer Event - Pink Elephant Edition

Of course there will be a beer event the night before FOSDEM (22 February 2008)!

After last year's chaos, we made significant improvements to the organization this year.

Highlights

  • New, larger bar
  • More, cheaper beer
  • Improved beer distribution algorithm (v3.0)

LPI and BSDA Certification Schedule and room change

The schedules of the LPI and exam sessions are now available:

The exams won't take place in the room "Lameere" as initially announced but instead in Guillissen (for LPI) and Decroly (for BSDA) instead.
Both are in the same U building as Lameere and signalisation will be provided.

BSDA Certification Exam registration open

You may now register for the BSDA exam sessions that will be held at FOSDEM 2008.

Pricing and schedule is available as well (follow the link above).

Profoss virtualization

Profoss is organizing an event about virtualisation on 22 and 23 January in Brussels.

Profoss is a rather complementary event to FOSDEM, as it wants to spread relevant and objective information about the use of Free and Open Source software in Professional environments. Profoss wants to help you deploy Free and Open source successfully in the enterprise. The first day is dedicated to the business impact of virtualization, the second day will take a close look at technical aspects. All speakers are specialists with a proven track record in virtualization:

  • Frank Kohler, Virtualization project manager for SuSE
  • John Abbott, chief analyst at The 451 Group
  • Mike Kreiten, Product manager workstation and server at AMD
  • Duncan Hardie, Solaris Product Manager at Sun
  • Kris Buytaert, co-author of Virtualization with Xen
  • Tarry Singh, virtualization advisor and Avastu CEO
  • Kristof De Spiegeleer, Q-Layer CEO
  • Herbert Poetzl, project leader of Linux-VServer
  • Niko Nelissen, VP Business development Q-Layer
  • Mattias Rechenburg, OpenQRM project manager
  • Werner Fischer, Developer and OpenVZ specialist

Being close to FOSDEM and the Free and Open Source communities, organizers also want to support FOSDEM:
each person registering for the Profoss event with the promo code FOSDEM will get 10% discount and Profoss will also give 20% of his/her registration cost back to FOSDEM.

Happy New Year

Let there be code,
Let the code be open
And let us, together, accomplish great things during 2008.

The FOSDEM Team wishes everyone all the best for 2008 and, of course, a year full of happy hacking.

Call For Lightning Talks

Lightning Talks are your 15 minutes of fame: every free or open source project can apply for a lightning talk. During exactly 15 minutes, one person gets to present the project or an aspect of it. All Lightning Talks will happen in a large room that can host up to 300 people.

Application deadline has passed...
