Open sourcing ATI
In 2007, AMD committed itself to providing open source support for its ATI range of GPUs. In september this was kicked off by releasing initial documentation for its R500 and R600 class devices. This unprecedented move has taken the free software graphics world by storm and was followed by subsequent documentation and information releases.
This talk will outline AMDs intentions and future plans, but will also discuss the difficulties encountered when turning a large graphic card maker into an open source shop.
