Nouveau: Cooking an open source driver
Cooking a graphics driver involves a complex recipe and a number of ingredients. This talk will detail the recipe used for Nouveau, an open source 2D/3D nVidia driver.
We will focus on the required steps to get a nice meal, including 2D acceleration with EXA, 3D acceleration support using gallium, proper modesetting with dual head, improved Xv support, and what all this entails. Less technical aspects like building a community around a driver will also be discussed.
We will finish by discussing future cooking, including moving more of the driver components into the kernel and possible extensions like fb support.
