Polina Polunina
As a PhD student at the University of Freiburg with a Master's degree in Computer Science, my interest lies in the computational biology, particularly in integrative analysis of deep mutational scanning (DMS) data. Simultaneously, I delve into the bioinformatic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater metagenomic data. Previously, as a part-time researcher in the Freiburg Galaxy Team, I contributed to the development of educational tools, including a bioinformatics game and interactive training material. Notably, my role involved creating Galaxy tools and pipelines for detecting SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater samples.
During a brief stint at the University of Toronto, I served as a bioinformatician in Roth Lab in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Computational Biology. Here, I focused on updating and maintaining bioinformatics community web tools and conducting analyses for variant effect mapping projects. Before my academic pursuits, I led a small team of system analysts at a country-wide developer company, achieving significant milestones in e-public services and internal process optimization.
